Land lease

Land Lease is an ongoing body of work composed of disabled military weapons recovered from the Russo-Ukrainian war.

The objects originate from armaments manufactured across multiple periods and jurisdictions, including Soviet-era Ukrainian stock, post-Soviet Eastern European production, and contemporary Western military supply. Several weapons entered Ukraine through foreign military aid programs and were subsequently deployed in active combat.

The weapons were fired and used by soldiers on both Ukrainian and Russian sides during the ongoing conflict prior to being rendered non-functional and removed from circulation.

Land Lease was initiated by Ukrainian artist Maxim Kilderov. The
project emerged in the context of the 2022 full-scale invasion,
during which large portions of Ukrainian territory were subjected
to occupation, contestation, and repeated transfer of control.

The works are marked through surface intervention while remaining structurally unchanged and permanently disabled.

The title Land Lease refers to the condition of territory treated as provisional through force: land occupied, transferred, contested, and reclaimed, rather than owned or resolved.

The objects are held as a material archive. They remain unresolved and are not restored, neutralized, or aestheticized into symbolic closure.

This project is ongoing.
